Benefit Backgammon Tournament for Jamaica Inn Foundation

November 2, 2018 at Jamaica Inn

The Jamaica Inn presents its 3rd annual Backgammon Fundraising Tournament 2018. The tournament is being held in association with other main sponsors such as The Jamaica Tourist Board, Billy Craig Insurance, Select Brands, Marksman Security and Caribbean Producers of Jamaica.  All proceeds will go towards the Jamaica Inn Foundation’s primary project being the facilitation of the Ocho Rios Fish Sanctuary located along the northern coastline between Prospect Plantation and the Ocho Rios Harbour. The mission of the Sanctuary is “500 in 5”, which simply means we intend to have 500 percent more fish and marine life within the sanctuary boundaries in five years. The event is slated to occur at Jamaica Inn on November 2-4, 2018.
The tournament will include a welcome cocktail reception at the exclusive resort and mini tournament on Friday night. The main tournament on Saturday will include lunch and an awards ceremony as well as a complimentary yoga class in the morning for players and their guest. Jamaica Inn is also offering a special accommodation rate for tournament participants. 48 top players will compete for cash and other prizes, including accommodations at the awarding winning hotel and spa.
Kyle Mais, General Manager at Jamaica Inn, says he was so pleased with the response and success of the previous years tournament that he is very excited in making it an annual event. “We are so far down the path of realizing our objectives and as a result the fish sanctuary will soon be reality. A manager and wardens have been hired and also the demarcation of the boundaries. So much so we have even added an additional mission to the original which is to plant 5000 pieces of coral over the next 5 years. Benefits from the backgammon tournament will go directly to the sanctuary.”
The tournament is being co-organized by the Jamaica Backgammon Association, with Coldwell Banker’s Andrew Issa and Panmedia’s Knolly Moses as co-directors. The Association stages the annual Kingston International at Spanish Court Hotel, now in its seventh year.  Many of the competitive backgammon players in Jamaica are scheduled to participate in the benefit tournament. These include Ruddy Armstrong, Fredrik Moe, Eddie Azan, Warren Burrowes, Mitta Rousseau, Joey Issa, Mark Roberts and Garth King just to name a few.

Tournament Entry Fees:

  • Saturday Main Event – US$150 (includes lunch, light refreshments and awards ceremony)
