“Noon Time Nyam Up”

January 16, 2014

We have added a lovely new tour to our repertoire of fun things to do when you are staying at Jamaica Inn.
“Noon Time Nyam Up” is all about experiencing a real Jamaican cook-up, featuring a 3-course luncheon farm-to-table style. Guests enjoy a presentation about the fruits and vegetables used for cooking (some harvested from the estate), as well as a guided tour of the expansive and beautiful gardens.

Fun fact: “Nyam” is in “Patois” or local speech. The word is sometimes used in Jamaica for “eat”.

The location of the Estate is 700 feet above the coast of St. Ann and a short 10-minute drive from the hotel. Named “The Colliery” – the Estate is the home of Belinda Morrow (Collier) and family.
Hosts Belinda and her sister Janie will take you on a journey showcasing the history of the house and family as well as interesting tidbits on the fruit and vegetables grown on property. You will learn how banana is made into our famous banana chips, how coconuts are cut and how we incorporate our herbs and spices to make the food taste divine!

A welcome drink of Jamaican sorrel punch, with or without rum, and an old fashioned rum punch are the signature drinks of the day. Make sure you try Norris’ special mint tea (with fresh peppermint picked from the garden), with a drop of honey or brown sugar. Lunch is served up on the serene verandah overlooking the pristine golf course and showcasing the perfect angles of the St. Ann coastline in the distance.

This tour is only available at select times of the year, so please check with us if it will be available during your visit.
