We are brokenhearted to say that our beloved Shadow lost her battle with cancer on January 11, 2023. She enriched not only our lives, but also the lives of thousands of guests from around the world who passed through The Inn.
In the eight years she was with us, she charmed one and all with her love of making new friends on the beach every day. She enjoyed frolicking in the sea, digging holes, and seeking some shade under the loungers.
As Labradors love their food, she soon discovered that if she followed the waiters with the breakfast trays, she could charm the guests out of a slice or two of bacon. At lunchtime, she was on patrol to ensure that the french fries were up to her standard.
Her true passion though, was the time she spent with Belinda Morrow on the paddleboard and swimming by her side early in the morning inspecting the reefs. A special thank you to Belinda, who helped her through this year and the good work of Noah’s Ark and Dr. Motta who gave her some extra time with us as well as all the team members at The Inn who helped and loved her along the way.
She will be sorely missed. Shadow the fourth, RIP.

Such sad news to hear my beautiful friend has passed. I can remember her as a pup, growing and learning, and over the several years she had got to know me and would keep me company. I will miss her “ high fives” ! ❤️
Shadow had passed away. I knew her when she was a puppy and she always came
to see us when we were on thebeach. I am sure you are desolate to lose her. I have a black Lab called Purdey. Maybe they will meet one day at the Rainbow Bridge. In sorrow and with kind regards Susan Miller ,Cranleigh, England
We are so saddened to hear this news. What a sweet girl Shadow was and so aptly named. She would lie under our chairs and shadow us around the waters edge on our visits to your inn. She was the understated heartbeat of that property and I know you are all grieving. Sincere condolences and gratitude for sharing her with us on our stay. -The Aldridges
On my first visit to Jamaica Inn , I remember getting the bags out of the car and this adorable creature greeting me so happily as we entered the lobby. Thought it so charming to have her on property. On another visit , she was absent and I immediately asked for her. They assured me she was on the beach. As a fur mom myself, I’m so heartbroken for you all . She had a wonderful life . RIP Shadow.
I met Shadow IV as a puppy. She was on the beach and stole a hat off a beachside table. She didn’t know a guest had put her (large) diamond ring in the hat. The ring fell into the sand and could not be found until several hours later in the dark. Shadow learned to smell for rings before stealing hats again. What a wonderful dog!!
Shadow greeted us on our veranda every single morning during the Xmas holidays this year. She was eager to shake a paw, and content to sit by our side. Whenever I had leftover steak from the night before, I would save it for her for breakfast which she truly enjoyed. We will miss her dearly as we loved her like one of our own. ❤️
