A Celebration of Stewardship
Here at Jamaica Inn, we believe that true luxury is found in harmony with nature. It is a philosophy woven into the very fabric of our resort, from the gentle lapping of waves on our secluded beach to the colourful blooms in our gardens. It is not just a policy; it is our promise to this beautiful island we call home.
It is with pride and gratitude, therefore, that we announce that Jamaica Inn was recently awarded the Environmental Sustainability Award by the Ocho Rios Runaway Bay Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA). In a moment that touched us profoundly, we were also presented with a Special Award recognising over 50 years of continuous membership in the JHTA.
To be acknowledged by our peers in the tourism sector for our commitment to environmental stewardship is both a privilege and a powerful motivation to continue this essential work. We extend our sincerest thanks to the JHTA Ocho Rios Runaway Bay Chapter for this recognition.
This award is a testament to the dedication of every single member of our team, who live our green mission daily. It celebrates our enduring mission which is written in our credo “We are proud caretakers of this special piece of paradise and believe in continuously…preserving our environment”. Jamaica Inn has always looked to the future, understanding that maintaining Jamaica’s natural beauty is the very heart of authentic hospitality.
Our Ongoing Journey - Where Passion Meets Practice
For us, sustainability is not a single project, but a tapestry of ongoing initiatives. The JHTA award reflects years of consistent effort, and we are delighted to share a few of the practices that define our green journey:
- Guardians of the Coastline: Our support for the nearby White River Fish Sanctuary through coral planting and mangrove restoration is a deep passion. By offering only non-motorised water sports, we ensure our marine world remains a tranquil sanctuary for all its wonderful inhabitants.
- Saving the Hawksbill Turtle: Every summer, during turtle season, we have the honour of protecting the nests of the endangered Hawksbill turtles as they nest on our shores. Witnessing the hatchlings make their first journey to the sea is a profound and joyful experience that we are grateful to share with our guests and members of our community.
- A Step Away from Single-Use Plastics: We have proudly eliminated styrofoam and single-use plastic bottles from our operations, significantly reducing our waste footprint.
- Powered by the Sun: Our investment in solar power helps to offset our energy needs, and complements our resort-wide use of renewable energy and LED lighting to reduce our carbon emissions.
- Pioneering Change: As the first resort in Jamaica to install electric vehicle charging stations, we are committed to supporting cleaner transportation for our guests and our community.
- From Our Gardens to Your Table: Our organic gardens and composting programmes create a beautiful cycle of sustainability, providing fresh ingredients for our kitchens while nourishing the soil they grow in.
This award is also a celebration of you, our cherished guests. Through your support of the Jamaica Inn Foundation, your participation in our Travel with a Purpose initiative, or simply by choosing to reuse a towel, you become an active partner in our mission.
Our environmental commitment comes to life through our signature fundraising events organized by the Jamaica Inn Foundation (JIF). The passion we share for protecting Jamaica’s natural heritage will be on full display this November 1st at one of the island's top swimming competitions: Swim for the Sanctuary. This event has become a major fixture on the local calendar, generating essential funds and widespread awareness for the vital marine conservation work at the White River Fish Sanctuary.
We invite you to be a part of it! Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or a cheering supporter, your participation makes a difference. Are you ready to dive in for a cause? Learn more and register here.
This recognition from the JHTA is a milestone, but our journey is far from over. With our clear goal to become carbon neutral by 2026, we are more committed than ever to leading by example. We believe that a holiday can be both indulgent and impactful, a chance to reconnect with what matters most.
Thank you for your part in our story. Thank you for helping us to safeguard the wonder of Jamaica for generations to come.
