This Organization works to monitor and protect critically endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtles in our environment. Due to the huge success of the project, over 100 nests and 16,000 hatchlings are now recorded each year.
Many of our guests here at Jamaica Inn have witnessed the turtle hatchling events on our beach. Mr. Mel Tennant supervises the Project and works closely with our Watersports Team headed by Ovan Coombs at the hotel to record estimated time of nest hatchlings.
The Foundation is in an equal partnership with the White River Marine Association (Stakeholders and Funders) and the Jamaica Inn Foundation in operating the White River Fish Sanctuary.
The mission statement of the stakeholders involved in the setup of the sanctuary is “500 in 5” which simply means that the mission will be to have 500% more fish in 5 years. The benefits will be enormous to us all and for our future in Jamaica. This will be most beneficial for the livelihood of Fishermen and will help to restore our reef by keeping fishing limited to only certain places.
